OKANOGAN, Wa. – Public Utility District No. 1 of Okanogan County (“Okanogan PUD”) Commissioners approved and executed a long term Power Sales Contract (“Contract”) with Public Utility District No.1 of Douglas County (“Douglas PUD”). This Contract ensures that Okanogan PUD will receive low cost, reliable, carbon free energy produced by the Wells Dam Hydroelectric Project (“Project”) for as long as Douglas PUD owns the dam. Currently, Okanogan PUD receives about 25 average megawatts of power from the Project and about 50 average megawatts of power from the Bonneville Power Administration (“BPA”) to meet its 75 average megawatt load. The additional generation from the Project coupled with generation from BPA should meet Okanogan PUD’s projected load growth for the next thirty-five years and provide long term rate stability for Okanogan PUD rate payers.
