Please be on alert for an ongoing scam targeting residential and business customers in Okanogan County.

The scammers are claiming to be from Okanogan PUD and are threatening to shut off service for a past-due bill. They then demand payment by wire transfer or a prepaid debit card.

The scammers may be using deceptive tactics to manipulate caller ID systems to make it appear the call is coming from Okanogan PUD, when it is not.  If you receive a suspicious phone call, you should hang up and call Okanogan PUD at 509-422-3310.

You can also report suspicious calls or emails to the lead agencies investigating this nationwide scam, the Washington State Attorney General’s Office or the Federal Trade Commission.
