Recently the PUD has been notified by residential and commercial customers in the Oroville area that they have been targeted by scammers.  These customers received phone calls asking them to provide payment of their electric bill or face immediate disconnection.  The scammers even provided names and phone numbers for the customers to call them back.

Please be wary of providing any payment information over the phone.  If you receive a suspicious phone call, please hang up and call your local PUD office.  You should also report suspicious calls to your local law enforcement agency and to the State Attorney General’s Office or the Federal Trade Commission.
